Remington X-Mark Pro Trigger - Informational post

I just bought a new Remington 700 stainless synthetic mountain rifle in 7mm-08 made in late April 2014. This is just after the ending cutoff for the trigger recall. Out of the box, the trigger measured a consistent 4 lbs 13 oz. I backed out the external adjustment screw and there was no change, even when I backed it all the way out. Same pull weight, every time. I finally took the gun out of the stock and scraped the lacquer off the adjustment screw on the front of the trigger housing. I then backed that screw out gradually until I got it down to 2 lbs 10 oz. It passed the drop test and the safety on, pull the trigger hard and take the safety off test. It remained consistent within a few ounces and there was no creep and no over travel. Overall, a very good hunting trigger.

Don't believe those that tell you to automatically replace the trigger. If your Remington 700 was made after April 9, 2014, try this first and you may end up with a trigger you like a lot.

Still happy with mine.

Today I took my new Remington 700 stainless synthetic 7mm-08 with it's newly adjusted X-mark Pro trigger to the range. It acquitted itself quite well. The trigger was consistent with no creep or over travel. The rifle turned in 3 shot groups at 100 yards of 5/8 to 1 1/4 inches with a variety of ammo. I cleaned it several times during the session, but avoided the tedious break-in some recommend. This bore looks to have been honed by some automated process and there are very few visible tool marks. It cleans up easily.

One mystery is that it HATED Federal Premium ammo with 140 grain Nosler solid base bullets. No surprise since two other 7mm-08's of mine have hated it as well. Something is very wrong with this ammo. Federal Premium with 140 grain partitions shot fine in this and other rifles.

I do have two X-mark triggers of earlier vintage that are recallable. I replaced them with earlier Rem 700 triggers without even fooling with them. I like the old Rem 700 trigger a lot and have no trouble getting them down to a safe 2 to 2.5 pounds. I like this latest X-mark Pro as much or better however.
