Does or has anyone ever made a good trigger for the 541S ?????? i sure could use one..Thanks...

Although I'm not aware of one being made by anyone at this time, Canjar used to make a trigger for the 788 Remington that some folks fitted to the 541 series rifles. Canjar is no longer in business, or so I read. You might try beating the bushes, i.e. gunbroker, ebay, here, for someone who might have one of those Canjars. I good smith that knows what he's doing can get the factory trigger to under one pound. I have a 541-S that has had the factory trigger reworked and it's around 6 ozs.

i believe timmney makes a trigger, might not be on web sight. do not know weight numbers. Other than the Canjar (who are long gone) never heard of any other.

Good Call!

My brother, who's a pretty good general gunsmith in his ownright and is an instructor out at Trinidad, CO, reworked my 541X trigger (no adjustments) safely down to about 12 oz years ago. This last spring I'd sent the rifle out to Brian Voelker to have him set the barrel back, thread, rechamber the rifle, lap the lugs, etc. While he had the rifle I figured I'd have him install adjustment screws in the trigger. The rifle was returned with the trigger set to let go at 8 oz consistently and I'm very pleased. The rifle shoots exceptionally well considering what it is. Mr. Voelker's work is exemplary and his fees are very reasonable.

Thanks guys......I was really hoping,,but I kinda knew in the back of my head,,that Jewel might of made one.....Darn...

Remington Trigger

For what it's worth, I have several Canjar triggers that are for a Remington 40X, That can be had reasonably.

remington trigger

The remington 540xr had an adjustable trigger
it was a starter small bore rifle.
There also was an article on how to add more adjustment to the 541 trigger.
You can change the spring and hone the sear a a tad to get a lighter pull
Best be careful .
The artice i believe was in an old shooters news.

To Seabee, 40x triggers will not work on the 540 series without some sort of interface. The only trigger that is similar from the centerfire line is the 788. A Canjar trigger for the 788 will work on the 540x and 540xr. These were the earlier models ( along with the sporter 541s) There was a second generation of 540 series brought out by Rem. 10-15 years later. that particular series triggers were awful ( lawyerized) they can be made reasonable never great. Timney was making a 788 trigger as of last year which is worlds better than most of the second generation 540 units although a hunting style not target type. The original series as stated previously was a entrance/mid level position target rifle with the 541s being an upscale sporter (these are excellent units for hunters rifle silhouette). They were the 513's replacement. The second generation units were not much more than upgraded 580 series units. I vividly recall the gnashing of teeth about the trigger units on the silhouette line.
