Remington model 700

there is a large difference in "participate" and "compete"

it is not a br gun unless the local club has club rules for a factor class or hunter rifles.

i got a chance to buy a 700 in 308 real cheap.what class could i shoot it in just for fun?

FTR with a bipod looks likely----but the competition is fierce! Use 175 gr MK for the 1K stage, any other bullet won't be stable past 900 yds, unless you have a 30" barrel. Tried 168 gr once and the poor pit man went nuts--all over the paper, and oval holes!

Since I see you are in Maine, I would suggest you attend some Score matches at Damariscotta, Augusta ,or Orrington and shoot Factory class.

That's what I told him when I talked to him on the phone twice Dick.
