Remington Firing Pin Spring

I recently bought a Remington 40X in 222 out of an estate. The gun was stored cocked for many years. The firing pin fall is very weak even after disassembly and cleaning of the bolt.

Replacement springs come in 24#, 28#, and 32#, with an indication the OEM replacement is 24#.

Any particular thoughts on using the same as the OEM or heavier springs ??

I have used the...........

24, and the 28, and I haven't seen any difference, but, I don't have the measuring equipment necessary to make an informed statement on sear/cocking piece relationship, etc. They both, however, make it go BOOM!-when it should. :D I have had guys tell me that leaving them cocked never hurt anything, but common sense should dictate there is bound to be fatigue after prolonged periods, and, here you are, proof.:)
