i've got an old 700 adl i think made around '64 in .222
i adjusted the trigger down as light as i could safely
and it'll go to around 9 ozs. is this normal i was expecting
more like 2 lb. minimum.

gave it the bump test hard a few tunes

and slammed the bolt on it quite a bit.
right now it's set at 9.4ozs if i go below 9
it will release the firing pin on closing the bolt.

Tap on the tang and bolt shroud with something. If it stays put your OK. I'm betting the firing pin will fall on the first tap.

i took a 5/8 wooden dowel rod about 12"

and if i hit the top of the bolt shroud real hard it would release
the pin. that's the only way. with a scope over it protecting it
is it too light? i really had to whack it probably would have broke
a knuckle if i had hit one of them. i tried putting the safety on
pulling the trigger hard, nothing, then taking the safety off, nothing.
before with a 77 ruger when i had it to light and took it off it safe
it would let the pin fall.

You are too light. If you must go that light, get a trigger that was designed to operate at that weight. They are of a different design. Safety first!
