Guys I am new to the forum. My son has his first rifle a Remington 540x in like new. We are going to mount a scope on it. The receiver is groved for rings is it anything better then that to use to mount the scope on. I used a set of millet angle loc but they don't look like they are the strong enough to hold scope secure on the groves in the receiver. I guess I am asking what is the best thing to use?

As the 540X is a rim fire rifle, the scope and rings don't have to be particularly stout. I'm not so sure millet is the way to go as there are far better rings available. What are your intentions for this rifle? Are you intending to use it in rim fire benchrest or are you thinking along the lines of position or prone shooting? Are you thinking of using it for plinking?

I thought that the last 540X I worked on had 4 drilled and tapped hole on top of the rec. . I think weaver makes bases for their regular tip off top mount. OWLSHOP

Remington 540X

I just checked Brownells and they list for the 541S/541T (2) #15 bases . If your rec.is d&t the holes should be .504 spacing not sure of the spacing between bases. OWLSHOP

Call Brownells and talk to Tec Help and ask them what they have that will fit...................................

The 541 is drilled but the 540 has a rail on the receiver. My son is going to use it to shoot benchrest. What is the best rings to use on this gun.

I used BKL. They make a lot of different rings and they are really solid and nice. Look on the internet and put in BKL. Matt
