Does anyone out there shoot a Remington 40XR-BR in competition? What modifications ,if any, have you made? I have been looking for one to shoot in informal matches, but they seem hard to find.

You're looking for one with the green factory stock I think. I've never seen one in actual competition. There are plenty of 40X's on the line but most have a new barrel and a new trigger and a custom BR stock. There are a few factory rifles but even then, the stock and trigger have usually been replaced. Some do very well. If you're set on the factory BR, good luck. You can probably buy a regular factory 40X in the $800-1000 range. If you're lucky, you might find one from one of the top gunsmiths in the $1600 to $2000 range, which is probably below actual cost.

1bamashooter, yours has to be one of the finest looking 40x's out there and the fact that it shoots good sure doesn't hurt.
TNT, as mentioned by Beau, not sure if your looking for a full customized 40x, or one of the green stock Remington Shop units. Most of the one's I've seen, and shoot myself, are just the 40X action and everything else has been added.
Gene Davis has one over on Gun Broker right now that you may want to look at. He's the master of the 40x and since your located up in Central Ohio he's in your neck of the woods.

Question: if that 40X shoots as good as you have indicated by the target pictured, then why the heck are you messing around with switching out the barrel? What are you planning on gaining? Even if those two groups were shot at 25 Y, and not 50 Y, they're still damn good groups!
The biggest mistake you may ever make is to take that barrel off your gun! With it being capable of shooting that tight, you will never be able to make it shoot any better, and may even make it shoot worse.
But, that's only my opinion, and what do I know?

The main reason is that with the barrel that is on it now I am over weight for 10.5 lb class the other is my groups have opened up and I have tried everything I know to get them back to what I started with. The barrel is the origonal barrel from CMP and there is no telling how many rounds it has through it. I might be making a mistake but we will see i guess.
