What if any is the difference between a 40X rimfire receiver and a 40X centerfire receiver other than the bolt. Can one convert a centerfire 40X into a rimfire 40X.
They are very different and can't be changed. I think one difference is the locking lugs on the centerfire are in front and they are in the middle on the rimfire.
That is just one of many things different.
A number of gunsmiths have converted Rem XP-100 CF actions to RF. Converting a 40X to RF would be the same process, Since the RF bolt lugs are in the middle, new lug recesses in the action would have to be cut and possibly hardened.
With all the custom actions available today it probably does not make economic sense to pay to have the action work done unless you have the machining skills to do yourself..
