Remington 40X Action Length Question

I have a question on the availability of 40X actions. Was there ever a 40X long action? I know that the rangemaster is available in 30-06, 300 Win Mag, etc., I am having a friendly debate with someone on Rimfire Central that said there was never a long action. If I look at the Leupold mounting chart they specifically mention the 40X long action. How would a 300 Win Mag ever fit in a short action, and be able to be ejected if it were a unfired round?

Please help clear up this debate.

Thanks,

Ed

The long action cartridges offered in the 40-X were built on short actions. (bolt had to be removed if a chambered live round was NOT fired) I am 99.99% sure that Remington never offered a 40-X long action to the public.

Maybe not back in the day but they did build long actions

40-x

EHK - it is a great article about one of my favorite cartridges.

The information with regards to the 40X never being produced as a long action is reasonably correct. The 40X in the single shot configuration has never been sold as a long action.

With the introduction of the 40XS in the 338 Lupua three years ago and the 300 WM this year - long action 40X repeater actions are being made.

Good Shooting,
