would this make a good cleaner to use while breaking in a new barrel since it has a fine abrasive in it to maybe help smooth a new, bore more quickly? Thanks!

This is a fine product which can be thought of as liquid JB. It is a fine barrel cleaner that may help smooth out a new barrel with less "one-shot-clean-one-shot-clean" cycles. It certainly will not hurt.
A high quality barrel that was properly lapped by the manfacturer will probably not require a lot of break-in.
What you're talking about won't hurt - IMO.
I like Joe Krupa's philosophy when it come to breaking in a barrel and cleaning:
"When I get a new barrel, I break it in with 25 pieces of newly turned brass. I turn brass by writing a check to Ron Hoehn. I clean the new barrel, and then shoot 10 pieces to both fireform and break in the barrel. Then I clean the barrel and shoot the remaining 15. After that, I clean the barrel and start tuning it with the first ten. I am convinced that you break in a barrel by shooting it more so than by cleaning it."
I agree with virg, it's jb without having to gouge it out of the little can. After I clean a barrel with solvent and brush, acouple of tight patches with 40-x brings out awhole new generetion of crud.
