rem-700 Bolt Lift

How do you reduce bolt lift (force required to lift ) on a rem. 700...
mill less angle in the cocking ramp...???
less firing pin spring force...??? 18 lbs...???
Thank You ahead of time...

I start with the cocking angle. I've done so many that I can lay it over towards the notch, free hand on a grinder. Then polish with a cratex wheel. Sometimes just a good polish improves things a lot.

I think that having very smooth locking lug abutments is very important. Empty chamber bolt lift is not as important as what the lift is like after shooting the typical match spec hot load.

With the mods I did to my 40x the bolt closure is now probably as nice as it can get but the bolt opening is terrible when compared to a well used Viper I have. I have to use the off hand to hold onto the forend to try and keep the rifle from twisting in the bags.

I also like long bolt handles.
