Rem.700 BDL SA floorplates not all the same?

Maybe a patient soul could direct me to some info re: variations of the 700 BDL SA floorplate dimensions.

I bought a varminter stock and floorplate (for the floorplate really) but it does not want to fit together in the action with either the Rem. Varminter stock or the HS Precision stock.

Looks like I will have to file away the inside rim, if that makes sense. So far my forum searches have not alluded to this problem. I must be missing something very obvious.

Thanks for your time ... and patience.

It is quite normal to have to slightly alter stocks to fit the top and bottom metal...

1000 pardons - didn't explain adequately

My mistook.

My problem is not with the stock. The floorplate fits nicely into the inletting of both the HS Precision and Rem. Varmint stock.

My problem is it does not fit down over the exterior metal of the BDL magazine housing (box). Looking down into the top of the floorplate housing, I can see a clearly defined ridge/inset measuring only about 1/8" deep (as can be clearly seen in the amazing hi-def camera phone pix if i could only attach it). That is still approx. 5/16" from the bottom of the floorplate.

Viewing the action nestled into the HS Prec. stock, the metal of the magazine housing is less than 1/8" from the stock inletting so when the action and the floorplate are placed in the HS/P stock, the floorplate is rocking on the box and about 1/4" from fitting flush.

Me thinks I'd better go find a similar BDL in existence and compare notes.

Thanks for the help!

The magazine box should be seated into the bottom of the action first... and sometimes it needs to be lightly hammered so it is fully seated... then it is a matter of wiggling the trigger guard assembly onto it... getting it to fit... try it without any stock first and see how that works... then try it in a stock... if the magazine box is fully seated into the action and is inside that "lip" on the bottom metal, and it still rocks in the stock, the stock inletting is incorrect... the upper and lower metal would have been inletted too deep...

you might want to check, there is a length difference in the ADL & BDL mag box length, the ADL is longer and will not work in a BDL without a pain in the butt trim job, (ie: it's a lot cheaper/easier to order the right one from Brownell's for around $10.00)

... uh oh.

You nailed it David! It turns out it is an ADL going into a BDL stock (not BDL into BDL).

I think I will trim it ... as I am sure the Brownell's crew will immediately spot the dumby who tried to fit the wrong box into a BDL stock and they will ... just keep snickering every time I talk to them.

Thank you thank you ~ E Mont

.... so you had an ADL box not a BDL box as stated ... hmmmmm... I didn't read ADL anywhere....:p
