Reloading Question?

Good day folks

I'm reloading my .308 using Sierra 175 gr hpbt with 43grs of Varget powder and my OAL is 2.800". The question is if I want to increase my OAL to 2.855 should I decrease my powder charge.

My rifle is a Rem. 700 5r milspec.

Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Johnny,

Increasing your OAL by .055" isn't going to change a lot internally, but it's always advisable to work a load back up whenever you change a variable in the mix. In this instance, however, increasing the OAL will actually decrease the pressures a bit. You'll be fine here, as long as you're not running into the lands (which I seriously doubt) at the new OAL.

Hope that answers your question,

I am also loading for a Rem 5R with 43 grains of varget. Let me know how you like 2.855 OAL. I am now trying 2.9 with a magnum primer. What primer are you using? I am trying to get Varget to shoot better than my 4064 loads. Tuesday I will be trying magnum, russian, and few others. I need to decide for my match a week from Sunday.
