Hi all,

is it posilble to reload a .308 win with Vihatavuoro N110 with Sierra 168grn MatchKing ?
I heard about this in a discussion about reduce barrel haet.
I only shot 100m indoor so there is no wind.

Regards
Alexander.

N110 in .308

Vhitavouri N110 is one of the fastest pistol powders on the market. Its even faster than Bullsey. Trying to use that powder to reload in a .308 is playing with fire. I used it to load 1oz target loads in a 12 ga and blew totally up one gun as I got a doublecharge in one shell and didnt detect it cuse of it beeing such a small quantity. By totally blowing the gun up I mean the forend became toothpics in my hand the checkering engraved in my hand for a couple of weeks and the rear end of the barrel looked like a banana peel. You would reach dangerous pressur before you got any velocity and disasterous pressure if the quantity changed even one grain more. My advice
DONT TRY IT.

hi .25shooter

thanks for your reply.
N110 is the fastest rifle powder and its uesd for magnum pistol loads.
I found 1 loding data from N&H. But they use 165 grn lead bullets and 16grn N110.
I like 168 grn Sierra HPBT Match Kings.

The fact that they fired this load with a lead bullet is a strong clue that it is most likely sub-sonic. Perhaps fired through a can. I would class the use of this powder in conjunction with a 168 gr. jacket bullet as a very poor decision regardless of the charge weight. If you enjoy this rifle and have long term plans to continue shooting it buy a pound of H-4895 and pick up one of the hand-out Hodgdon loading manuals and go from there. There is a post running on this board right now regarding the complete disassembly of a bolt gun caused by an overload of a powder that is margainly to quick for that case. What you propose is a bomb. Most problems in life are the result of making bad decisions and this component choice is one. Not trying to rain on your parade. Just trying to keep you from getting hurt and maybe someone else as well.

Looks like those are handmade lathed custom reduced cases. If that is so then the price isn't totally unreasonable. Since I have forgotten most of my German I wonder if they are working on a sub-sonic load or just a reduced load. Interesting concept on the case.

i remember we are talking about shot around 40 - 50 Shots in short time and the barrel is only lukewarm. This why im looking for a reduced load.
Does some one has as very reduced load with standard case and 168grn bullet?
remember i only shoot 100m indoor.

Alexander.

Reduced loads with fast powders are only possible with cast lead projectiles because of the substantially lower barrel friction of lead compared with jacketed projectiles. Even so, more recent experimenting with cast lead projectiles has shown these loads to be less efficient & reliable than loads with faster rifle powders.

On the other hand, it has been shown that using reduced loads of certain (slower) powders with jacketed projectiles can lead to "detonation" & destruction of the firearm, though it is unlikely in a .308 size case.

You will not be able to load the 168 grain projectile back enough to cause significantly lower pressure, erosion & heat without running the risk of erratic & unsatisfactory loads. Perhaps you should consider projectiles that have been used for short range work - projectiles in the under 130 grain plinker range from major manufacturers.

and perhaps this has nothing to to with top end loads, benchrest shooting and accuracy...and maybe the owner or a moderator will remove/move it.

maybe if you had used n310 you would have had better luck........
100 series if RIFLE POWDER
300 SERIES IS PISTOL POWDER....
and people wonder why this is asked on a BENCHREST/ACCURACY FORUM.

You are right mike 100 series is a rifle powder and 300 is pistol powder. I misread the post as that he was seeking advice for loading .308 with N310 which was the powder that blew up my gun cause of a double charge. And you are also right Mike that neither the question nor my answere has nothing to do with benchrest
