recoil reducer in synthetic stock

AMMASHOOTA

I am building a couple of 300 WSMs on Remington actions and need some advice on stocks. Can a mercury recoil reducer be fit into a synthetic stock? If so, how? I have no problem installing them in wood stocks but have never attempted it in a synthetic.

The rifle in question is for my daughter, for hunting in Africa, so I am trying to make it as 'friendly' as possible, seeing as she will be shooting heavy bullets.

"Will a 65 prop job put my boat up on plane?"

Point is AMMA, you're asking an un-answerable question.... WHAT synthetic stock? I've 30 synthetic stocks here, some of them will accept a dead mule.

some won't

Most can be modified to work.

Didn't know i needed to specify. How about an H-S Precision? They are my favorite synthetic. I may stick with them for this project.

I just put one in a Weatherby Vanguard 300 Weatherby and had plenty of room. I filled the rest with Great Studd foam. I intend to shoot it later today. It also has a brake installed. If you use the foam I suggest you leave off the recoil pad for a few days until it stops expanding. I'm told it has been known to split stocks.

Great Stuff foam?? (@Lowes.)

Yeah, Great Stuff. I should learn to proof read my posts.......duh. Anyway, it worked pretty well. I left the butt pad off for 2-3 days and trimmer the foam as it expanded. I think that had I put it back on and tightened it down, I may have had a problem. BTW- I shot it for the first time this afternoon after a match. It's still got a helluvalot of muzzle blast, but the recoil is very manageable. I don't think I'd care to run a hundred or more down the tube in an afternoon......Note to self....be sure to take ear protection in the woods.
