I am new to benchrest shooting. I have a 54.18 anshutz silhouette rifle with a nineteen inch barrel. It weighs about 9 lbs with a scope. I would like to know how high of magnification can I go before the firearm recoils off the field of view of the scope at 100 yards. I'm considering going to a 36x-45x power scope. thanks for you opinion and I appreciate your expertise

With a 9 lb rimfire fired free recoil a 36X scope wouldn't likely move enough to move off target. I've never used a 45X, but it might work.

Have a similar rifle I shoot off the bags for ammo evaluation, not benchrest.
However it is likley similar to yours. Use an older style Sinclair front rest and a Bald Eagle rear bag and can see the bullet impacts at 100 yds when set at 50X with on problem, so do not believe you will have an issue.

The stock is a McMillan fiberglass thumb-hole silhouette, and isn't ideal for riding the bags. Was experimenting with different LOP on the stock, since the photo it now has a new recoil pad and longer LOP.

May be slightly heavier than yours with the tuner on the barrel.

scope recoil and field of view

you have one beautiful rifle, thanks for the picture:D

This is something you can easily check. Just shoot the gun off the rests you presently use and in the same way you normally hold the gun. Note how far off the aiming point the crosshairs move. Then any scope you chose with a field of view of twice the amount the crosshairs moved will keep the point of aim in view.
