recoil pads for BR stocks

Anybody know of a recoil pad that can be used with an Adamowicz-pattern BR stock? I know they are generally considered not needed, but I have a .30 BR I'd like to try one on, and a couple 1,000 yard rifles in calibers rather heftier than a PPC.

The Kick-Eez Junior will fit, but I always have a problem with sorbothan getting all bent out of shape.

The pad would have to cover stocks about 1.75" width, yet only a 3.875" depth (i.e., with a solid-enough backing that you're not trying to put screws into "nothing"). .4-.6 depth should be plenty.

TIA

I just made one for my 30BR. Not that it is really needed but what the heck. I cut out a piece of aluminum plate, don't know the thickness, just a peice of scrap about 3/32 thick. Dressed it to fit the stock and drill holes in proper places. Then, here's the brilliant part. Took an old mouse pad, cut a piece to match the alum plate and contact glued it to the plate. Final grinding to touch up the rough edges of the rubber pad. The mouse pad is about 1/4 inch thick. Looks OK. Will it work....I guess to some degree. At least it beats a solid plate. And a mouse pad also makes a fine elbow pad and cheap too. Cheap I like. :D

PS. I guess if you need it thicker you could glue several together.

On my Metal Mayhem I use Frost King Rubber Foam Weatherseal self stick tape bought at the big box home improvement store. R734 is the number on the lower rh corner of the package. This tape is 3/4" wide and 7/16" thick of closed cell black foam.

It makes an amazing difference in the felt recoil. I shot this stock on a 6Beggs without a pad and got a bruise. Now the stock is on a 30BR and it's is no problem free recoiling the rifle for a 100/200 yd match. At the end of the day there is not even any tenderness.
At the end of the match I remove the tape and throw it away.

Im not kidding with what i am about to say. I saw a fella at the st Louis Varmint shoot that had a piece of styrofoam cut and glued onto his stock for a recoil pad. it looked like he took a knife to a beer cooler to get the piece of foam for the stock. If was funny!! I know pretty dont mean squat but thats a little ruff for me. I have my pads fitted by Jon Beanland or Tom meredith. they both do outstanding work!! Good luck! Lee

Last homebuilt recoil pad I made was from a piece of ungrooved Bandag tyre retread rubber I liberated from the local tyre yard. It was just the right toughness to saw, whittle & grind to a good finish & hard enough so I could drill & countersink for screws to backup the glueon job I did on the butt.

...or you could do what they did in the old days & put a 7 pound bag of lead shot between the butt plate & your shoulder. The Remington 40XB Br was built with that in mind.
