Hi guys ,
I am looking for ideas on reamer storage . Of course I have tool boxes they can be stored in .I am currently storing them in single layer fish tackle boxes .I thinking about something in the line similar to test tube holders . I need to store near 100 reamers.

Thanks for any input,
Chris

Brownells and other vendors sell the tube material and end caps. All of the chamber reamers that I have gotten from PTG came in tubes and are kept there except when doing a chamber.
If you are talking about chucking reamers, a piece of the expandable plastic tubing placed on the flutes should work fine, allowing the size to still be seen. MSC and others have the protective plastic tubing. MSC describes it as "Flexible Polyethylene Mesh Protective Non-Elastic Sleeving". It is low cost, also.

Yes I have all the plastic sleeves . Just looking for a convienient way of storage .I am not thinking of test tubes but the test tube racks .

A reamer draw, for your head space gages along with your reamers. I use the Kicker box on my Kennedy machinist box for reamers. But any draw that you can devote to storage works vary well.

Storage of reamers and Go and No Go gauges

I have 5 drawers in a large wooden machinist chest dedicated just to reamers and gauges. They are segregated by calibers. There has to be a better way to keep the tubes of reamers and gauges in a better order. I like the idea of test tube holders. I know many old gunsmiths used cigar boxes.

They make cabinets with shallow drawers for storing drills and such. They should work well for reamers stored in their clear tubes.

What I did

was get some 1X6 synthetic floor decking. Ran it through the table saw to make 1X1 square. Cut them 8 inches long. Put these into the mill and using a 3/4 ball mill made the cut for the reamer. The cabinet uses freestanding pieces of masonite 1.063 tall by 7.950 length to make the "shelves" inside the box. Works great and you can make it to hold as many reamers, headspace gauges, pilots as you desire.

I put oil on them and put them in a plastic tube.
I put all the plastic tubes in the same box of reamers and go gauges, so I can find them.
I don't like to loan, borrow, or rent reamers.
