Reamer Design?

Since you guys have been such a gold mine of information, I am going to ask another question. Yesterday, I started going through some old information that I had saved, and I came across a list of rimfire reamer specs. It has Win. 52D match. Bentz, JGS Match, Freland MG, and a whole lot of non match designs as well. I noticed that they are all tapered in the body. with leade angles of from around 1.5 to 5 degrees, the majority being 2 degrees. There was considerable variation in the length of the bodies, and they all had a rim recess diameter shown at .288. (I don't think that my 40X has such a recess.)

Back in the dim recesses of my imperfect memory, I remember reading an article, in Precision Shooting, by Bill Calfee, in which he mentioned (I think) that he was a pioneer in the use of reamers that are parallel in the area where the case goes, and that he has several different diameters the selection of which depends on the groove diameter of the particular barrel he is chambering.

I guess that my questions are, have I remembered this correctly, and what is the relation between groove diameter and reamer diameter that is preferred? What leade angle has worked the best for you? Also, do you have a reamer print that has shown itself to be superior, and would you share it with me?

Thanks for all the help.

I'd suspect most used today have a leade of between 1-2 degrees, chambered to engrave anywhere from 1/4 to the full drive band on ELEY and I would'nt hesitate to call Dave Kiff for a chat on what seems most popular as to what's currently being utilized.
