reamer cuts on one edge?

Why is it that you can dial in a barrel that will indicate less than .0002 on the back of a 6" indicator rod and then take a perfectly ground reamer and cut the chamber but only one or two edges of the reamer actually remove any metal? I've never seen a reamer cut with any more than one or two edges.

Dave Kiff answered this question before, when they are made properly they will cut on all flutes. How are you holding the reamer?

All my reamers are measuring spot on and are held with a custom made floating reamer holder.

I asked about the holder because I wondered about mine. My 308 reamer seems to cut on half the flutes normally, with one doing most of the cutting and I can't figure out why. No matter what I do to the holder it still cuts the same. Some of my other reamers definitely cut on 3 or 4 flutes almost evenly with the rest cutting only a touch. On these I can screw up the cut by putting pressure on the holder.

You know the old saying ignorance is bliss; well I'm not actively perusing the answers to this issue :D

Tail stock alignment can have a lot to do wiyh also. Even if you have it aligned as perfect as you can get it, many are low and some also point down. None of that helps. I made a solid reamer holder that was bored in perfect alignment and most of my reamers cun on many more if not all flutes now.
