Wasn't there a match in Raton this weekend.... ?

If there was, everyone is sure being quiet about it !

Jim Carmichel talked to Sam Arnett today. I think he said Sam won the HV agg and 2-gun. Don't know any other details.

Richard Brensing shot the L/V that been giving him trouble he found out his bolt has been bad.He won the heavy 100yrds and 2nd in the heavy grand. maybe he chim in and tell us what was with the actioni

Leon Gass, shot exceptionally well in Raton this past weekend. I don't have the match results before me, but I believe he won the HV 100; or was it the LV 100?

I was also very proud of and happy for my friend Sam Arnett, who really put the britches on us in the two-gun. Way to go SAM !

Can anyone tell me

why the results from Raton are not in the NBRSA News? Doesn't anyone report the results of these registered matches to the NBRSA?

Michael

Very Valid Point

It can be a little discouraging to say the least when you have worked your butt off and the match director won't even take the time to get it in the news letter. That's not a real good way to encourage new shooters. Over my way Don Creach, who runs the Kansas City matches at Mill Creek does an excellent job with this, and I know all of the guys appreciate it. Mike Ratigan, when he was running the matches at Mooreland also did a graet job at this, he also was good with giving out the wood.

Without starting a pi$$ing contest, you say you are working your butt off and the match director didn't. How many days did that match director work his butt off getting things ready so you could just drive up and shoot??

Tell you what, cut his pay in half!!

That is part of the job!!!!!

I didn't say a match director wasn't working!! What do you think, that he has to fill out the match report while he is running the match?? This is something that is done later. I have talked to quite a few of those that run the matches, and most realize that it is part of running the match, just like scoring, getting the shooters to the line, ect.
Lets just not put any reports out, not print the NBRSA news anymore, and instead of BR central we can get a couple of tin cans with string and see how everybody is doing.

How much time elapsed from the match to the NBRSA news coming out with the last edition? It couldn't have been more than a couple of weeks if Pat's post was right after the match at Raton. Truth is, after the match is over it takes a day or two just to rest up and, usually, a match director has other things to do beside just put on a match.

Our last match was over on Sunday afternoon and the reports were in the mail to the shooters by noon the next day but this is highly unusual. Normally I don't get them out for a week and it takes me a week or so to get the match report written and to Cross Printing. If a report gets in the NBRSA News by the next issue or two that's doing pretty good. This does not take into consideration the shooters who leave stuff and call asking if I'll ship it to them which means boxing it up and taking it to the post office.

It's also discouraging to spend many days preparing for a match and then have a low turnout and then having some question just why we don't do it better.

Why not...

Take the match results (which should be recorded electronically) and send it into the NBRSA website for all to see immediately...then mail-out results to the competitors and NBRSA News within 21 days...
I have been involved in managing large sporting clays events (up to 425 shooters) that require the results be posted within an hour of the event closing...and the electronic results were forwarded to the NSCA headquarters that same afternoon via the internet...Yes it is a lot of work, but it should be part of the pre-planning agenda...Just as planning registration, parking, and food concessions, RV hook-ups, golf carts, etc..
If you think posting the results after a match is a hassel how would you like to have to participate in a live televised telethone the day before the shoot to encourage donations for a local hospital for which the shoot was to benefit,
While all of your delegated work is being done by high school kids and volunteers that in most cases do not shoot...

This option has just become available and it would be nice if everybody who shot would just go there and get the results instead of having to print and mail copies but not everybody uses the internet. Since Wilbur has promised to come to our fall match I plan on doing this very thing just to see how it works. You can't believe how dumb I am when it comes to computers and, worse than that, I'm a slow learner when Wilbur tries to teach me something.

to denigrate what you and other directors have to do, that it not my intent.
Richard
Didn't really think that you were. I was just trying to give some more perspective in running a match. I have to keep the range ready, print target labels and label targets, make sure the water and electricity are working properly, (I'm building new target stands now), get the moving and stationary backers ready, register shooters, measure targets and do the stats plus work on competitor's rifles or anything else that goes haywire and remain cheerful through it all. It would kill an ordinary man.

Quote by Mickey- "Truth is, after the match is over it takes a day or two just to rest up and, usually, a match director has other things to do beside just put on a match."

For some people, it's called "catching back up what you put off while you were away from work."

The Match Directors in our area do a very good job of getting these out in a timely matter, but it may take up to a week to get it done. These guys have more than enough to do. Be sure at least to thank them-thats all their looking for.

"They don't have to be there and you don't have to be there." That line came from a former match director after getting a verbal barage because something wasn't done the way the shooter wanted it to be. It's a line I've always thought about since I've heard it-it's very true.

Your name in print....

It's come to my attention that Mr. Turner is unhappy with the Raton match results not being printed in the NBRSA News. My apologies, Micheal, but I have sent the first 3 reports to Cross Printing- (I haven't gotten to last weekend's yet). I imagine we'll have to wait our turn and it may be awhile longer. It's a small mag with a huge stack of reports. Congats to Sam Arnett- he showed us how it's done! Hope to see you all next year. Jack Snyder
