What is the proper way to handle ejected brass. I'd like to start in the factory class but my Remington throws spent brass about 6 feet. I'm sure the next shooter over would not appreciate this. If I reach underneath to catch it I change my stance on the bags.
As I hunt with the rifle I'd prefer not to monkey with the ejector spring.

The AR guys hang a little bag on the side of the ejection port to catch their brass. Maybe you can use the same setup for a bolt action. Don't think it could be that difficult. Personally, I weakened my ejector spring. It's quite easy to replace it with an original. Art

Doesn't take 2 minutes to remove or reinstall the ejector. Keeps your brass from getting dinged up, stepped on or lost when target shooting.

Unless you use the rifle for hunting you can either remove the ejector or reduce the spring pressure so that the case head is just barely lifted off the bolt face when the bolt is opened. As crb says it only takes a couple of minutes, a 1/16" pin punch, and a light hammer to do the job. A spring from a retractable ball point pen should work as a replacement although it'll likely have to be shortened. Even if it's a hunting rifle it'll only take a little time to reinstall the factory spring. If it's a varmint hunting rifle a weakened or deactivated ejector saves time spent looking for cases lost in the grass too.

I cut some of the length from my Rem 700 ejector spring. Now it puts them on the bench about 12 inches from the rifle. I do not see why you could not hunt with a setup like this.

Exactly... the factory spring is way too heavy. I alter many for hunting rifles so the brass is not thrown so far... many hunters wish to retrieve their brass too.

Clip no more than 2 coils from the ejector spring a little at a time.Mine lays the brass about 10" from the rifle.
