Questions about older Leupold fixed 12x

This scope came in on a used rifle I purchased. It is a 12x fixed power Leupold with a 1" tube and 40mm AO. Fine target dot. It is a Gold ring with a knurled AO adjustment.

It does not have the target knobs, but the older style where you use a dime or penny to adjust the reticle position. It does not click, but rather uses friction to hold the reticle position.

Is this scope any good, best sold, or do they seem to hold up ok?

Thanks!

Good old varmint scopes... Leupold will update it with new click adjustments for a charge, or update to target turrets for a charge. I prefer the click adjustments as once it is sighted I leave it...

I've had one on a 40x 22-250 since 1976 and would buy another in a minute. I've never had to sight it in except when I change bullets.
I paid $225 for the 40X new and $77 for the scope. Good old days.

Dennis, my 30 year old M8 12X with friction adjustments quit adjusting a year or so ago and I was told that they couldn't update it to click adjusters for some reason. They did clean it up and fix it to likely better than new condition, but no clickers. :-( Good scope!

Steve, I'd send the scope to Leupold to have it checked over and and cleaned up for a minimal fee. A lot less than a new scope for a very good scope.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'm gonna offer it up for sale and get it into the hands of someone who would like it. I looked through it today, and ruminated over the uses of a fixed 12x in my collection, and I didn't really have a space for it. I just picked up a new Leupold FX-II fixed 8x scope, and it's gonna take care of that need.

I appreciate everyone's time and info. If it is still in the safe my this Fall, I'll send it off to Leupold for a check-up.

Thanks again.

I paid $115 Cdn for a 12 x with CPC along time ago.

Try it -you just might like it.
