Questions about .22 rimfire ammo

I'm looking for a subsonic .22 rf ammo that is accurate and affordable to shoot in a 10/22 with a suppressor. I found that some brands of std vel ammo are not subsonic in my 16" barrel. I also found that CCI pistol match is 1,050 fps in a 16" barrel. That's the ideal velocity I need.

However ........
  • What is unique about .22 rf CCI pistol ammo?
  • What subsonic .22 rf ammo would you recommend?

I use RWS Subsonics, and Eley Subsonics in my CZ 452 16",with a suppressor. I shoots both about .4-.5" @50yds. Great for squirrels and other critters. Shot several out of same tree so far. MOS accuracy w/o any problems. "minute-of-squirrel"

For sniper work i use Wolf match target -about $45 a brick when you can find it. Will shoot 1/2" @ 50' with a couple of my 10/22's.

For pratcice, Remington Subsonic, they are a hollow point, about $20 a brick. Shoot very accurate.... for cheap fun ammo. Maybe 10 out of a brick will shoot above subsonic.

Find the Wolf Match Target!!!! It will shoot as good as ammo twice as much! joe:)

ammo

well as mr. stith says if you cant afford the best in the target business you are wasting your time.

i have some high dollar target rifles smithed by 2 of the best i have tried every low dollar ammo i can think of it all shots like crap. now if you are shooting a 1022 anything works.

i finlally broke down a bought some ely black label 10.00 a box at wholesale.
guess what at 50 yards all bullets in a tiny target circles. i did find out i now can shoot not champion shooting but in the backyard pretty good.

now the question is if i want to splatter all over the place then t22 works just great but in a 2000.00 rifle im wasting my time and money hard to convince a tightwad of this but no satisfaction otherwise. so every time i shoot there goes 20c down the line. crazy!

Thanks for the info.

Bob ......
You're right about using quality ammo in Target rifles. I have an Anschutz 54 with a target barrel that has fired 12 consective targets under .300" at 50 yards. It was only possible with RWS Match ammo.

Leadhead ........
I've never heard of SK subsonic ammo. Still don't know what the velocity of it would be.

jGee .........
I've heard that Wolf makes some high quality rimfire ammo, but I still don't konw what the actual velocity is.

finnwerke757 .........
Eley and RWS are too expensive for my suppressed application, and I don't know their actual velocity.

Sorry mr Larry i misread your post i thought you were asking for accurate subsonic ammo. joe:)

It's always good to know which ammo is likely to shoot accurately. I got a tip from another forum that lead me to www.22ammo.com VERY INTERESTING for rimfire shooters!

I still need to know what is unique about .22rf CCI pistol ammo.

Why is some rimfire ammo designated as "pistol" ammo? Does it have a faster burning powder? Does the bullet shape differ from Std Vel (or) Hi-vel ammo? It's called pistol ammo for a reason . . . . what's the reason?

That's a great question

Maybe the Tech Dept at Eley or Lapua, or anyother ammo maker, can give you a correct answer. It may have something to do with speed, but I'm more inclined to beleive it was ammo tested in pistol length barrels, and therefore the Pistol Designation on the box. As a barrel gets shorter, the speed goes down.

ammo

well was just on grafs website and now just getting ammo is going to be a big deal no stock. went to midway same crazy problems for all manufactures.
