Question

I ordered a straight turned barrel for an AR15 223 project. The order was for 1.000, -.000, +0.003 OD. The barrel came in at 0.903.

The barrel extension is the competition type with 13/16 x 20 TPI, instead of 16, and with a longer tenon at 0.920, 0.300 longer than the standard one. The go gauge on the average sticks out 0.128 from tenon face.

I could return the barrel, I am sure I will get the correct replacement. However, if i were to decide on finishing this barrel, should I be concerned about the breech
strength of the barrel, a 416R SS?

TIA

As Dave says, no concern with strength at all but whether just over .050” shoulder bearing surface will give enough support for accuracy is the question. I would imagine it wouldn’t be an issue but only one way to find out. Let us know how it shoots. When I was making quite a few AR barrels, most barrel nuts allowed for 1.050” and I typically would turn to that. Theoretically I was happy with the larger shoulder/bearing surface but whether it made a difference on paper I couldn’t tell you.
