Question on Farley rest top tension

I picked up a lightly used Farley CoAxial II that didn't come with any literature. With the 10.5 lb guns or my 13.5lb. gun in the bags, slight downward pressure will cause the top to lower.

Is there a rule of thumb you Farley owners use as to how much tension is too little...or too much?

Al, I have the original co-ax, & never had that problem. Mine stays put, even with a 17-pound 1K Light Gun. In spite of that, I hang on to the joystick when shooting anything smaller than a .30 magnum.

I would adjust the tensioning screws until it stops moving with "slight" downward pressure.

(The problem with the original is you don't have quite enough movement available to cover a 100 yard score target, unless you loosen the screws holding on the rubber bootie. Everything's a compromise . . .)
 
Tension screws

I have a farley but mine has a preloading screw you adjust so that the weight of the rifle makes it neutral. Is this screw on you rest missing.

Farley has 2 tension screws. One on either side of the joystick. They have a big locknut on each.

I have the (2) screws you are referring to, but the way Andy was talking I thought it was another screw (singular) and thought I may be missing something.

I did install the (2) tensioin screws I purchased from you awhile back and it does work smoother....Thanx..

Almost everyone I know has replaced the OEM ones with Butch's. Unless or until you replace yours be advised the moly in there has dried up. Pull them, clean everything up and regrease, I've had nice results with the silver antisieze, whole thing takes about 10 minutes.
