Question for Wilbur on post count

Very probably this has already been covered but I didn't notice (that would be a first). It looks like post counts have been reduced by a factor of close to 50% recently. Mine or anybody else's post counts don't make a flip but it is curious.
 
I think I read that it was a case of clearing out a lot of old stuff so the old posts that are no longer active deduct from the total post count.
 
That's right

I was preparing for an upgrade (one I'm scared of/haven't done yet) and needed a backup for sure. Last database dump took forever and ever so I dropped some of the oldest threads and did a "recount".

All for naught thus far but I'm about to get up the nerve to proceed with the upgrade. If you find the site dead in the near future you'll know what happened.
