when you ring a barrel do you have the gun all set up or naked. like is the scope on, bolt in etc. i would think so since thats the way the gun is when fired. been reading for 3 days and my head hurts and i'm still confused on this one piont.

I ring on the rest, ready to shoot. I can move the null point by moving the scope, adding weight to the end of the barrel or in the middle of the barrel. Adding the weight in the middle, with the rubber mounted dampeners makes it harder to hear the null as it is dampening as it should.

Try bolt in and bolt out and see if what you hear changes.

Only reason I say that is on my Anscutz the ringing I first heard wouldn't change as I tapped on it and it turned out I was hearing the I guess the firing pin spring resonate.

i was gonna get an RVA wieght set if my Hohen wieghts did not work out. i cant get the barrel off the action so i stripped it totaly down and hung it from the ceiling and rang it blank. "RING" just like a tuning fork. added the blank tuner 7oz i believe "ring" not so loud and the dead spot closer to the muzzle. added the 3 oz aluminum weight to it. dead as door nail no ring anywhere that i could hear no matter where i tapped on the barrel. gonna set it up in the stcok and try it that way too to see if there is a difference.
