Question: Flying in and out of Oklahoma and Missouri with a firearm?

I had this posted on the General Discussion forum and only got one reply. I figured maybe I'd get more response up here on Rimfire.
I am flying from AK to Tulsa for a work meeting in two weeks. After the meeting I am taking a couple of days off to hop over to Missouri to visit with Butch Hongisto.
I want to bring the 22 RF benchrest rifle that Butch set up for me and get some pointers on tuning it and to try out some ammo.
Are there any firearm laws/regulations in either state that I need to be concerned with? During the last few years I have flown back and forth to Wisconsin with rifles without a problem. I am hoping that OK and MO are gun friendly as well.
Thanks
Jim

No state laws to worry about. If you can make the feds happy at the airport, you're golden.

Jim, download your particular airlines guidelines on firearms and transportation put a copy in your gun case and when the tsa (thousands standing around) tell you they don't know what you can do simply show them the rules. Should work, never travel without them.

Thanks Don and MSM,
Printing out the info from the airline website is a great tip. Yep the Thousands Standing Around can be pretty dense at times.

We shoot in Tulsa on the 24th, a Tuesday, if you're still in town.

Hey Don,
Unfortunately I am flying back up to Anchorage on the 24th :(.
Some day I really want to get down there to see a real match!!

Jim, I flew with a checked pistol to Hawaii to shoot an IPSC match a few weeks ago. Although I encountered no problems, they certainly did things differently on each end, and asked each other questions about what they should do. I suspect they just wanted to rub their hands on it, but the printed regs were the first thing they saw, and then the dissassembled pistol, and that cooled their ardor. I'd take the rifle apart and bubble wrap (no tape) inside the case, with regs on top. Unless Butch glued it. I'd also attach tags with name, address and cell phone # to receiver and stock.

My dad's in Tulsa, gun friendly as can be. Missou is the same except don't take your BR silencer with you!

Hope you are well.

Hey Ben,
Good to hear from you. I figured that neck of woods wouldn't be a problem as far as firearms are concerned.
I am excited to spend a few days with Butch. He said we can spend a day at the range. I'm betting I'll learn a lot in one day from him!!!

Jim,

You will not regret the money you spend on the trip, I'm a little closer to Butch (about an hour away) and I have had the opportunity to spend a few afternoons at the range with him and he can give you a bunch of tips and show you alot of stuff. He can certainly make those rifles smoke. I used to see him on a pretty regular basis when they were having weekly unsancioned indoor shoots in Sullivan but since they have not had those in a couple of years and I have not had any real gunsmithing needs I haven't talked to him in quite a while.

Welcome to Missouri.

Charlie

Thanks Charlie!!! I'm really looking forward to this trip. Maybe you can swing by while I'm there.
I'll get to Butch's Saturday afternoon June 21 and leav Tuesday June 24.

Butch is great

As a complete rookie, I had a chance to spend a few hours with Butch about a year ago in his shop in Sullivan. Couldn't have been nicer to someone who knows little about benchrest. He checked out my used Anschutz, gave me a few tips on using it, and even passed along a few boxes of Eley. I was genuinely impressed with his knowledge and his patience with a brand new shooter. Great guy.

That's good to hear TM. I have talked with Butch a lot on the phone and count him as a friend. getting to meet face-to-face will be great.
