Question about re-gluing a Panda action into the same stock.

I remove a glued in Panda action from a stock that I am going to have refinished, The adhesive is a grey color, is that JB Weld? Should I try and remove the adheasive from the stock or will it be ok to reglue the action over it with the same adheasive? I cleaned off the bottom and the sides of the Panda action. Whom ever did the first glue in roughed up the bottom and the lower portion of the sides to adhere better. What is the process to hold the barreled action in place after the regluing process? Any advise you can offer me will be appreciated. Thank you, Richard Ramsey

is that JB Weld?

dunno, probably not. Most folks use something else like Devcon for the bulk and JB just for the glue.

Scrape it using a sharp metal scraper, the rounded ends of old hacksaw blades work well for this if you haven't scrapers. Roughen the surface to expose fresh, hard material.

Gravity, no process, just gravity. I wrap the barrel with tape until it holds the barreled action where I want it, suspended. Put a small hunk of spacer under the action somewhere if need be, maybe some shims cut from pop cans to suspend the action if you can't get it to work with only tape on the barrel. Glue it in with JB weld after soaking the action in MEK for a couple days.

Since this is a Panda and has already been glued into that stock, consider;

-If the gun handled properly with the previous gluing, do not attempt to modify the existing cavity.
Any process that uses the existing barrel cavity to align the action with that cavity may result in
the gun not tracking properly since the barrel cavity may not be exactly parallel with the forearm/
buttstock which is the area riding the bags.

-As to the new gluing media, either Devcon F or JB Weld will do the job. Just make sure the old bedding is
firm and properly degreased and degrease the action surfaces where the glue will contact.
Note-If using the JB brand use JB Industroweld product, not he JB 5-minute product sold at places like Walmart since that JB product is a
fast-setting item that has low temperature release.

_If the gun did not previously track as it should you may want to consider mounting the stock in a milling
machine, correctly aligning the stock surfaces that contact the bags, then using an endmill and cutting out
some of the old bedding.

Dry fit, Dry fit, Dry fit, Dry fit,

Make sure that whatever you decide to do that you do several dry fittings. That is put it in check the fit take it out and do it again.
Nothing like thinking everything is fine after one dry fit to find out there was something you didnt notice or find it would fit differently depending on how you set it down.
I use blue tape to hold the action lightly in place for that just in case situation you dont expect.
I do use JB Weld for the final glue in and as previously stated dont use the 5 or 15 min version.
