You pull into the private range that you have been given permission to use and after a quite long drive, discover that a very important item was left at home.

Would you rather have your rifle? Or your wind flags?

Gun

Gordon:
You can shoot with a gun, and can get by without your own flags. Just shoot off the others on the range. Remember, Guns & Ammo are first on your, to have with you, list.

Agreed

Been there done that. Tape a list of everything you would normaly take with you, and place it inside on the trunk lid. Nothing like a good up to date check list.

OK Gordon . . .

Tell Us:

Did you leave the rifle or the flags at home?

Mr. Frosty :)

puzzle

I guess you could always borrow ammo at a rimfire match.

Aw gee, I got'a join in this one. Your post infers that this is not a regular match but a practice session at a "private range"? If this is the case then I would rather have the rifle. If it were a match almost anything you forgot could be begged, borrowed or stolen.

A check list is a great thing...all you have to do is remember to look at it!

So, what did you forget?

Al

The scenario I was tring to lay out is;

You have traveled to an unfamiliar range for a practice session. The range is primitive and has no wing flags posted and little vegetation. There is no one else there to borrow anything from, you are flying solo.

Would you rather have your rifle and ammo, or your wind flags - but not both.

So do you shoot with no wind flags, or watch wind flags with no shoot?

If you don't like that one.........

How about going hunting, would you rather forget your rifle, or your binoculars?

With a rifle you can improvise everything else. With everything else,(and no rifle) you'll still just be watching grass grow.

If you have a checklist, it's a good idea to check it before you leave, too. If anyone finds my benchtowl, reading glasses and a blue dog dish at Gateway, please let me know:eek:

Even if I had driven a considerable distance to shoot, I'd probably turn around and head home if I didn't have either my rifle or my flags. I'd be frustrated trying to shoot in the wind without the flags, and bored watching flags without being able to shoot. That's just me, though.

Since you forgotten some items and it's only practice, it is just as effective in your minds eye. Just imagine you could visualize shooting whatever card and have perfect scores every time. You could have forgotten the ammo as well, that would pay for the gas to get you there and back.

The imagination is limitless, enjoy the moment, and now you just had a very successful practice session, a great day and a nice drive home without all the negative crap why you didn't have a good practice session and you forgot something.

I did this once. I usually load 5, and shoot 5, and reload. Well I got to the range and had forgotten my brass, had everything else. I was moping around not wanting to drive 60 miles home and back when one of the other members stopped in and in talking to him he said he would get me a few cases from home (he lives 1/2 mile away). Anyway he comes back with two 5 gal buckets of brass. .223, .40 s/w, .38 spec., .45 acp ect. Tells me here you go no charge.

I been doing this benchrest thing since 94. And twice I have forget things, pretty good for a senile guy. Once was my bolt and the other time was flag poles. I tried to shoot the time I forgot the poles, but after about ten shots I gave up. Try to leave most except my gun and ammo in the truck in the garage so I only have two things to forget.

It's obvious

The gun, the gun......cuz you know I always have duct tape in the coach John! I can make wind flags outta duct tape but making a benchrest gun outta duct tape would be a streach even for McGiver

Bwaa-hahaha. That was our Match Director, and his duct tape has saved a couple of our Matches. :D
