My Pumpkin arrived yesterday. Man is that thing one impressive looking neck turning tool!

Any tips / lessons learned about Pumpkins before I jump into it this weekend?

Pumpkin

Don't jump into it! You might hurt your bum.
Try an unturned case first, with a good lube. (like Speedy Turn Neckturning Lube)

once coarse adjustment is made, fine adjustment with tool is a cinch and really works to the tenth. Use a good lube both inside the neck of the case and on the mandrel. I use Imperial die wax although he recommends half mobil 1 and half STP. I find that mixture really messy.

I find the fit using his expander mandrel to be tight on the turning mandrel. Be sure to use Don's expanding mandrel for proper fit of expanded case on the turning mandrel. Don't let it heat up too much. It will if you are turning fast with mechanical help though not anywhere near as quickly as a KM or Sinclair due to its mass.

Does anyone have some pictures of Don's expanding mandrel?

Does it have it's own body or does it ride inside of another die?

It would be easy

I got the 6mm-.30cal expander K&M makes for use with their turner and find it works well with my Pumpkin.

to tell. just measure the respective expander bodies and if the KM is a good fit to the Nielson, voila, you're ok. If not you are producing expanded necks that are too tight or too loose on the Nielson turning mandrel.

Adrian, I have also had good luck using the K & M Expandiron die to expand 30BR necks for use with the Pumpkin turner. I have had problems with the Sinclair type expander (mandrel wants to work loose), but never with the K & M. Sinclair now has a new expander die that looks much better. Their new turner may rival the Pumpkin, also. Give 'em a look.

The Pumpkin showed up at the NBRSA Nationals with his entire neck turning system. He uses a plastic squeeze bottle like Sinclair sells for cleaning fluid and only uses one drop of lubricant per case.
He is using STP and Mobile One as previously mentioned.
He turns a case in 1-2 seconds flat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing sits around for a long period of time and his first pass cases look like my match brass straight off of the turner. He pushes it on and takes it off.
