Find a piece of brass tubing (hobby shop) that will just fit in the bags' fill tubes. You will need about a 4" piece. Buy a plastic funnel that tapers down to smaller than the OD of the tubing. Cut the tip of the funnel so that the tube can be forced through from the inside of the funnel with an interference fit. Push the tube through the funnel almost all of the way, so that there is a little overlap but a minimum of flow disruption. Tape the joint between the two to reinforce the joint.

Now inert the brass tube into the filling tube of one of the rear bag ears so that it is inside the space to be filled. Arrange the bag so that the funnel/tube are vertical. Pour some sand into the funnel, and then work the tube in and out of the fill tube as needed, to get the sand to flow. As the section you are filling gets close to capacity, the end of the tube will act as a packing ram as you cycle it in and out. Always fill the ears first. A flat blade screwdriver will help tuck the fill tubes into their pockets when you are finished filling. If you have a leather bag, you will probably have to add sand later, after the leather stretches. Once you have the proper tool, and have a couple of fillings under your belt, it is easy.

I start mine with a little Baby Powder, helps to slick up the leather.
