Gents,
I have a Savage long range precision Varminter 22-250 with a 1 in 9 twist barrel.
I would like to step out in a little distance and was wondering your opinion on a couple of different aspects.
1. I am having trouble with making "bug holes" and have now ran about 1400 rds through the barrel. Wondering if I should have it trued, timed, etc or go to a different barrel and then have it all done?
2. If the gunsmith that has been recommended to me makes barrels is it absurd to ask him to install another companies? (I don't take my eggs to the restraurant and ask them to cook them for my breakfast!) I don't want to offend them by asking for someone else's barrel.
3. I am still practicing but was thinking of changing the caliber to .243 and shooting the DTAC or similiar. Reason for the .243 is that I have dies etc...not comfortable with fire forming... barrels life is good and brass/ bullets is cheaper than the "hot rods". Of course... I do still have everything for the 22-250.
Any help/ ideas would be appreciated. I am getting back into competition shooting- F-class and need a lot of practice and guidance.
