preparing for new gun laws

I am transfering my AR 15 and M1A1 to my son. The California law allowed current owners to keep their registered "assault" wepons but not to transfer it or give it to an heir as part of an estate. I fully expect the upcoming congress to pass a similar law. At age 57 I am planning my estate and I would hate for my son to have to "turn in" the several semiauto rifles to be destroyed. Hopefully he will be able to legally transfer them to his heirs when the political winds change.

Well this morning on CNN California right now is collecting guns on 12/01/08
and you know that this will sweep the country.

I live in Ca.

and neither of you know anything of which you speak. In other words, it's BS.

OK there is all ways one in the crowd with your BS attitude. That is why I never post any more.
It was on CNN at 9am 12/01/08 this morning about a gun buy out in Ca.

((and neither of you know anything of which you speak. In other words, it's BS. )) So I guess you are a know it all.

And sorry I posted any thing and I'll not post any more.
Thanks , Art

Like I stated

I live right here in Ca, am picking up a handgun this morning at 11:00, and you live in North Carolina and believe everything you hear. If anyone has an attitude on display, it's you, not me.

Not mentioned

There was nothing on CNN's web site as of 1PM CT. Guess it's only aired on TV News

changes are coming

My source on California gun law worked as a deputy Orange County prosecuter. He retired several years ago but follows gun laws rather closely. My understanding is that the assault rifle ban included a clause that made it illegal to transfer an assault rifle. I do not see how "picking up a handgun today" weighs on that statement.

Came directly

from the gun shop owner. Nothing has changed other than the recent additional paper work from FFL to FFL. I also checked the Ca. DOJ website. Nothing new!!!

Voluntary

Plactic $100 debit card for old worn out guns. $100 more for assult rifles. This is a voluntary trade, and from the junk I saw on CNN, that more than they were worth. From what I understood, this was onlt in LA County. Nobodys going to be knocking on your door to confiscate anything in the near future. Now if you trade something in, they'll have your personal information.

Thanks for posting that info. It looks like ArtinNC made a truthful statement. CA IS collecting guns today. Nobody said anything about "confiscating" guns, just collecting guns.
I think buy-backs are good, get the junk dumped in the ocean. Nobody really wants them, anyhow.

I think that the new administration has a lot more to worry about than changing the gun laws, here in Tennessee people are going crazy buy assult rifles and ammo, just causing the prices to increase.

What, eeeellllll-a, the drive-by capitol of the world. Who wooda thunk?

Since quite awhile before the last election (or, campaign, started early), I don't listen to the "news" anymore.

I try to stay ready tho', if you know what I mean.

Buy back

Yea!! It's Christmas time in Calif. I think they do this every year, about 4 years ago they were paying $200 or $300 for handguns I sold them 7 cheeeeap handguns I'd gotten in trade.MADE A GOOD PROFIT!!! Now it's $100 for handguns no questions asked, they use it as a way to get guns off the street.Sure wish i had a bag full of junk guns to sell them.

Have you seen gunbroker lately??

Most ffl's have the following in their adds: NO SALES TO CALIFORNIA

The politicians are doing a great job of limiting the amount of guns coming 'into' the state. Pretty sad that FFL's have to register with that state (if they want to ship there) when it's not needed.

And its really a shame Paul

According to the Ca. DOJ, more than 1000 handguns a day are sold on a normal day. Since the election, the amount has more than doubled. Long gun sales are running their normal amounts. An average of 375 per day. Refusing to deal with an FFL in Ca. will eventually hurt the entire gun sales market. Dealers here don't worry about the ban on "assault" weapons here because we have our own ban on them.

Buy Backs

I generally try to avoid these conversations/threads but I don't think that buy backs really do much to improve the situation of thugs on the street and guns. As Fred stated it's pretty much just junk that gets turned in. I won't get into the particulars of gun laws for I'll admit I don't know them as well as I should but do support org's that fight for our right to own guns. Some of the items that I do believe it's come to, and yes for a conservative republican I don't need the government peddling in my business mentality, I do believe things could be controlled better. Not only background checks for criminal records but also mental health checks. I'm not going to write a editorial in regards to such but should be part of the program. All gun owners should be responsible and have gun safes in there homes. Will it stop all thiefs, no but would help with many cases of guns getting to the street and last but not least, yes I live in Texas, step up production on death row. Third conviction and it involved a crime using a deadly weapon put'em to rest plain and simple. A crime and it involves a deadly weapon that results in death and the perpertrator has three prior felony convictions send them 6 ft under. I tell you what I'd bet money that you'd see a 40-50% decrease in the horrible crimes we see and read about everyday. Good news in the paper today but the Supreme Court turn down appeals from two death row inmates. One involved a gun, killing of three teenagers and the other killing a older woman. That's another story, kill a woman or children and yes you got it send them to hell burning. OK need to get back to work.

as for you guys in The Peoples Republic of Kalifornia. i live in the free state of Texas i will gladly come to Nevada and pick up all of the guns you don't want to turn in to the commies that you allow to run your state. the transfer will happen out of state and they will have no say in the outcome of said transfer. i would bury a gun in my backyard before i would turn it in.

Don't know how much

truth there is to this.... but the rumor is, the Mayor of Seattle is trying to pass a handgun ban in their beautiful city.

Who knows....

Seems the past will repeat it's self. If you liked Brady the first time around, you will love it this time arround. She and her goons have had 8 years to build up their financing and recruit many more tiny little minds. Front page of Dec. 15th issue of Gun Week, Quote,"Brady's applaud Obama's anti-gun cabinet choices". You can bet the outhouse they will come out swinging no matter what state you live in. We are all in a world of hurt. She will have DOJ doing her bidding. We will need our own bailout to cover legal costs. Who said justice is blind? It may be, but it ain't cheap.
