Practical Airgun Shooting: !$#%$&! Starlings!

Starlings have figured out a way to push back the screen in the soffet vents under the eaves and now get into the attic area and build nests. They're messy birds, drop nesting materials all over the deck, crap on my windows, on my truck.

So . . . .177 cal. Diana RWS, Mod. 34, open sights, double set trigger, 1100 fps with the light "hobby" pellets.

"Pow!" -- They're figuring out they're being stalked, not hanging around so much these days. :D

I've found that as long as the starlings don't know where you're shooting from, they tend to stick around better than not. Try shooting behind a cover and if they do fly, get yourself out of sight.

Have fun. I hate those birds. They make excellent target practice.

You don't need that much power

I used to get rid of starlings with a 10M match pistol, rested on a bench from back in the shadows of the garage from a range of up to 15yds ... no prob.

There birds are about the easiest to kill of any I've seen.

Take care under the eaves. I cleaned up a mating pair of pigeons once with my .22 BSA Airsporter & found that I'd penetrated the bird & the iron roof both times.

I don't shoot anywhere near toward the house, roof, or the barn either. I just wait until they land in the trees, pasture, lawn . . . Pow! Leave the carcass out there. Birds get wise to the dead carcasses of their buds out on the grass.
