I'm new to this site & I tried useing the search function for this question, but didn't exactly find what I was looking for. I have been looking at some powder's to start off with for my handloads. I have used Hodgen for several of my other rifle rounds in the past with good results but have a new wildcat round that I want to get lined out. I have a .30-.338 Win Mag in a benchrest made rifle with a Mauser 98 action & 28 inch barrel. I was looking at useing either a 210 grain Serria match bullet or a 208 grain Hornady A-MAX bullet. The powders that I was looking at were the H4350 or the H4831, Hornady shows that the H4831 will get my velocity where I was wanting it. But on the otherhand Serria shows the IMR 4350 to be able to get me there as well. I was wondering if any of you had played with this round at 1000 yds?

Shane,

Either powder will do fine. I shoot a 308 Norma Mag light gun with 210's and H4831 at about 2875 fps. The 30/338 is almost identical to the Norma. I also use H4831 in my 300 Win Mag heavy gun and 300 Weatherby hunting rifle, all with happy results. Bob Rosen uses H4350 in his Win Mags with 210's and it carried him to 2009 IBS Shooter of the Year. MRP and RL 22 are additional powder choices that will likely work for your application.

Thanks Greg, yeah they are almost the same round. I was looking at the H4831 for my first choice to try as my reloading manuels are showing a little bit more velocity from it. The info that I have from Sierra showed that I could get the same velocity useing the IMR 4350, but not having to use as much powder.
