Powder scale playing up?

A new powder scale was purchased late last year and is only a few months old. It is a Dillon Precision and is used to weigh every charge. Today, the beam would "stick" in the down position when the pan was filled with a charge. That is, the pointer end would not rise about 25% of the time. The charge weight is 24.7 grains, so is not insignificant and anyway, it used to work ok.
Does anyone have any idea what this "sticking" problem is about? This thing wasn't cheap.

Hi lethbridge.
From your description, your scale is a manual(as opposed to electronic) scale, probably magnetically damped.
It happens sometimes that foreign matter gets caught between the beam's pivot point(knives) and the body of the scale.
Try removing your beam, cleaning the knives with alcool and do the same for the area where those knives are supported.
Mine (RCBS 10-10) is the manual type and requires dissassembly for storage. It may also be good to ensure the beam is well installed on its pivot points when you assemble it. I have gotten erratic readings whe I failed to ensure proper assembly prior to use.
Hope this works for you.
