thanks
mike
(the 4831sc works well in the 7mm rem mag)

Re 22

Re 22 seems to work well for a lot of guys that shoot the .300 WM or its wildcats in 1000 yard BR. So far in my .300 WM Imp. it is doing well.

Most 300 Min Mags have a 10 twist, so I would shoot a heavier bullet to match the twist.

H4831 has won a few matches for me over the last decade.

A few years back, I developed.........

a load for a fellow shooter in a .338 Win.(same case) using H4350 & the Win. LR. His comment was, "Before the recoil gets to me, I can put 'em all in the same hole(3-4 shots)" :D

Brian,
I don't know where you got the information, but the 338 Win mag and the 300 Win mag do not use the same case. The shoulder on the 300 is considerably further foreward and has more case capacity than the 338 Win case.

I recently tested RE22, Retumbo, H4831, H4831SC, H1000, H4350 and VVN560 in two of my 300 win mags and the H1000 was my first choice and continues to proove itself. But, I am shooting 208 and 210 gr. bullets. The 4831 was second and 4350 was third.

Mike, if you decide to go with a heavier bullet I would be happy to share my data.

168mk - 69gr - H4350
these were the words form a man in the room when I was telling Rock of my new 40XB in 300win - the words were from Gail McMillan

my 300 mag

really likes IMR 4350 for light bullets(150gr.)
however for a 180gr it likes the R22.
these powders work so good in my rifle i just couldnt justify the price of a pound of powder to try R25 or Retumbo yet.
i tried H4831 and H1000 but it just didnt like them as well as the afore mentioned powders. Fred

PS for what it is worth, my 300 dont like screamer charges. usually the most accurate load will group best at roughly 2 grains below max. i cringe when i hear people only getting 3 to 7 reloads on their brass. my brass is lapua, before they quit making it and i have at least 10 reloads and they still slide into the chamber easily. i neck size 3 times then size in a redding body die for the 4th load. i use reddings competition dies. seems to work for me so far. Fred

Fred, my fav's
1) H4831SC
2) Retumbo
3) H1000

The wind is my friend,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

well i loaded up some moly'd 168's with both i4350 and 4831sc. got them sighted in today, but too windy for accuracy work.

my questions were about my to be 1000 yd br rifle, but i do own a 300 win mag "hunting" rifle. its a box stock savage. having never shot it, but having 168's and some 4350 and 4831sc put some loads together. my 4831sc loads were too hot, will consider lower loads, but the 4350 shot so well, i think i'm done with load development. .5 in a savage is good!
cannot wait to get the big rifle together.....still waiting on the reamer from ptg....they seem to have lost my order.....

Mike
Are you selling this rifle?
I ask because in the classifieds of the latest P.S. magazine there is a 300 win mag for sale by Mike In Co.
Lynn

not me. the 1000 yd is gonna be based on my 7rem mag...going to 300 win mag. this 300 win mag/savage ...well i got it cause its left handed....no real plans. tho a 284 would be a nice second long range rifle.

can one still get bolt heads to swap case size ?
