Polishing aluminum

I bought UNpolishedscope rings and Panda action from Kelblys thinkin I'd have something to do while waiting for the rest of my parts. Im wondering if anyone else has experience polishing an aluminum action. With the scope rings I started with white pumice, than blue and than red. Ive read where the color relates to it like grit of sand paper and with the current stuff I have the red jewlers rougue (I think its called) is the finest. My scope rings look like mirrors Im vary happy but Im wondring if there is something else I can use for the minor scratches left behind. Im also wondering on the action cuz I havnt received it yet, Ijust need to polish the outside, what about the bolt? I kinda wish I would have saved myself the hassle and just bought the polished version but oh well. Pleasw any advice on this would be SUPER helpful!!! Thanks!

brandon, i believe you are on the right track. by using successively finer polising compounds one can get a mirror finish. i believe either brownells or grizzly lists the grit value of their grinding compounds. make sure the compound is for non ferrous metals as some grits can embed in soft metals like brass or aluminum. Quick, call Kelblys and tell them not to beadblast the action on order.

Saves you hours of polishing.

Too late now, but you could have got your rings that way also.

polishing.....

I really wouldn't polish the receiver, or the rings, because they are probably anodized to prevent tarnishing. Once you polish them, they will tarnish as a result of exposure & handling; they probably have a "clear" anodize which your polishing will wear away, making it mandatory for you to continue to polish so they don't resemble old neglected silver.
