PMC Target 22

I was given 1000 rounds of PMC Target 22. Any idea what vintage this might be. Last night just before sunset I shot in my backyard range at fifty the following groups one right after the other with no barrel seasoning. Five shots each. Eley Biathlon .134 Rws Sub .25 Green Tag .225 Tenex Red Box .225 Winchester Super X .257 PMC Target 22 .129. Threw in the Super X just for grins but it shot fair good, eh? So the PMC Target 22 shows alot of promise. Shot with my Win 52c at dusk as the wind had fallen off finally. I'm no benchrester but would like to be when I'm no longer able to ride fast motorcycles on race tracks. Forgot to mention that POI was virtually the same for all ammo. I think the 52c is the cats meow.

Had some PMC target over 10 years ago that shot very well. It was made in Korea. It would average around 0.450" for 5 shot groups at 50 yards from my Shilen barreled 10/22 Ruger.
 
I also had some back in 94. It was an ammo that could be improved by sorting by rim thickness and weight. Only ammo of several I tried sorting back then that did any good sorting.

I'm not sure you proved anything by no barrel seasoning. As ammo #1 was shot with none to some seasoning, ammo #2 was shot with the lube of ammo #1, ammo #3 was shot with lube of ammo #2 etc. I remember doing that once and what appeared to be a great first 5 shots could never be duplicated with the ammo's own lube. just a thought. PMC relocated to the Lake Mead (Nv) area if memory serves me right. I liked the PMC Scoremaster ammo in my US Springfield M1922M1 and Winnie 52A. Much to my (and every body elses) chagrin, PMC went belly up about 3 years ago so PMC is no more. Cherish what you have of it and treat it like gold 'cause once it's gone it's gone.

I will certainly give the ammo a more thorough work out soon. My thought was that I've heard that one has to shoot ten or more rounds with a particular ammo to season it's barrel with it's own lube, etc. This maybe true when we get down to true bench rest accuracy, eh? The boys around here are still complaining because they can't buy 22lr for .50 a box anymore and not many have anything for real bench type rifles. This site is hugely informative and sometimes I can even figure out what Bill Calfee is talking about! My best, Guy
 
Good shooting Guy. I'm not really a benchrest shooter either. But I do like to try. Hell I like shooting groups as much as I do shooting score. I may not shoot score all that well due to my lack of wind reading skills, but I believe my gun will shoot groups with some of the better guns. That Eley Biathlon EPS was wicked ammo. Here's one that I shot last year with my Suhl. It's the first target on the left.

This target below on the right was shot with my original Suhl barrel and the Eley Biathlon EPS ammo. I almost had a perfect true one holer. One went just a tad to the left. Oh well.

I had some luck with sorting Remington standard velocity target, but that was in the early '80s, I'd guess. Ammo was in yellowish clear plastic containers of 100.

I had the chance to wring the PMC Target 22 out a bit this past weekend. High 1s were the norm with my 52c... if I watched my flags! As always my Anschutz 1422 sporter did just as well. I think it's time I tried a bench instead of my Black and Decker workmate, a better rest than my $25 Shooters Ridge special,some decent bags, and maybe something other than survey tape for flags! It's fun for sure and who knows maybe one day I'll actually get out of NH and see some of you. My best, Guy
 
where can I get any PMC 22 ammo .......used to see it here all the time, now nowhere

Where are you in NH? There are IR50/50 and AGBR(airgun) benchrest matches held at Pinnacle Mtn. in South Lyndeborough(I've been shooting there for 5 years, and I probably still spelled that wrong), near Wilton, from April to Sept. Good folks there, some very experienced shooters with top of the line rifles(even a couple of Calfee's) and rests for you to check out, and some folks that aren't as serious. I shot my first sanctioned match there with a modded 10/22 and a factory stocked Suhl, had a great time, and was totally hooked!

Renegade, thanks so much for the steer! Do you know what club or range hosts these matches? I am on the east side of Lake Winnipesaukee about 20 minutes from the Maine border so Lyndeborough would be real doable. My biggest problems are budgetary since I sponsor a motorcycle race team at NHMS and spent 31 days on the track last season myself. I keep promising myself that I will quit track activities but never seem to! The track is only 45 minutes away so the travel expenses aren't prohibitive. The 12-14K a season however does place a certain limit to spending on other hobbies. An indoor winter league would be real cool. Thanks alot, Guy

The name of the club is Pinnacle Mtn. Fish and Game Club, and Dave Shattuck is the match director. If you go the the IR50/50 website you can find him on the "contact info" tab on the home page.

If you decide to quit motorcycle racing and have time to travel, there are a total of 10 ranges shooting IR50/50 in NY, NH, ME, and MA. The closest for you besides Pinnacle would be Capital City in Augusta, ME and Holbrook, just south of Boston. Both of those clubs shoot IR50/50 Unlimited, and Holbrook has AGBR matches, too. The next closest would be our range here at Salem, NY, just over the border from VT.

There are only two indoor ranges shooting IR50/50 in the country, one in VA and the other in NC. You're right, it would be great to have something like that in the NorthEast!

One thing I can guarantee you is that anywhere you go to shoot, you'll find the most helpful bunch of Sportsman you'll ever meet. I've never been involved in a sport where so many people will go out of their way to help you beat them!

That's the man! Thank you for the info Todd. I'm sure that one of these places will have a match on a weekend where I'm free and none are bad drives. Hell, I travel to Ontario, Michigan, Nova Scotia to race and I'm all set up to camp comfortably in my van anyway. I'll give this some serious consideration for next summer. Thank you so much, Guy
