How lucky could we be? For the third straight month we had as close to ideal conditions as you will ever see up on Pinnacle Mtn. with only mild breezes under a partly cloudy sky, and temperatures hovering in the low to mid 70’s for most of the morning. Other than for having to drive through a foot of water when crossing the parking lot due to all the spring and early summer rains we’ve been having, plus having to deal with the many geese that had decided to make this overflow their home, making trips to and from the clubhouse a little interesting when nature called, everything was pretty much fantastic!

There were seven of us competing in the IR 50/50 match on Saturday with one being Barry Wood’s grandson, Buddy Hughes. Now, Buddy has shot with us once before, and did fairly well when sharing his grandfather’s equipment. But, this time, in an attempt to make the day go a little more smoothly, Al & Penny Hadfield offered to share their set-ups with Buddy, meaning he would be experiencing for the first time the joy of shooting a Mike Mullen built Sporter, and a Calfee-built Heavy gun. Barry, I hate to tell you this, but I’m afraid that Buddy may have just started his Christmas list.

As to the results:

13.5# CLASS

Congratulations to Al and Penny on their wins, and to Buddy for his great showing. Maybe next time the results will be showing a new champion amongst us.

After all was said and done with those deserving recognition having gotten such, and the range having been prepared for the AGBR match that followed, we said our good-byes and those not sticking around were on their way. That is, after Al and Penny got yet another jump-start.

Once again this month the conditions improved even more for our afternoon session, which is almost unheard of at Pinnacle. Other than for the temperature rising into the mid 80’s, and the humidity increasing noticeably, everything else was ideal for an afternoon of fun and relaxation. Once again this month, and for the second month in a row, it was only Doug Shea and myself that stuck around for the AGBR match which is a bit disconcerting, but we had a great time doing battle. And, if it hadn’t been for Doug having a mechanical problem on the first target, he would have given me an all-round lesson on how to shoot air guns. But, consequently, we ended up in a dead heat having to go to the first tie-breaker in order to settle the overall winner for the day by the X-count.

And, the results were:

UL-1
1.) DAVE SHATTUCK 246-5X
(ZM Theoben MFR .177 using JSB Heavy Pellets)
2.) Doug Shea 238-3X (self-built Theoben Rapid .22 using JSB Heavy Pellets)

UL-2
1.) DOUG SHEA 247-2X
2.) Dave Shattuck 242-4X

UL-3
1.) DOUG SHEA 246-3X
2.) Dave Shattuck 243-5X

AGGREGATE SCORE
1.) DAVE SHATTUCK 731-14X
2.) Doug Shea 731-8X

That’s all for this month. Our next matches are scheduled for Saturday, August 29th.

Good shooting!

Nice shooting! How many geese did you take home?

I keep saying I will get up there one of these days but my dear old Dad is still in the hospital and I use my trip up your way to visit him. The other weekend day is usually spent working in the yard under the direct supervision of the evil woman I married. (I will deny all of the previous sentace if it is somehow leaked).
I did manage to go shoot once at Holbrook last week to get the rust flakes out of the barrel from the Father's day monsoon we shot last month.

Ugh what a typo! Thx for pointing that out quietly Dave lol.

No problem Norm.

Now, for those of you wondering what happened. Since Norm corrected his blunder I thought it only wise that I delete my response. And, let's leave it at that.

Dave
