Saturday started out a tad on the cool side as the thermometer was reading exactly at ZERO inside the Shooting Shack before the fire was lit, which is a whole lot better than the sub-zero reading I got at home shortly after climbing out of bed! Maybe it was because of those cool temperatures, but only 4 of us came out to play for the day.

It was an absolutely beautiful day other than for one little detail; the gentle breezes that had greeted us while we were setting the range up soon became a switchy little 3 to 6 MHP condition catching us all as we struggled through target #1. By the start of the 2nd target that breeze had begun to turn into quite a gusty little 8 to15 MPH condition showing us all just why we so often refer to the winds of Pinnacle being so bad. But, the wind wasn’t quite done with us yet as by the end of the match we were facing a very switchy ±20 MPH gusty wind which only continued to grow while we were packing up to head for home. Even though it had been a beautiful day otherwise, the problem with all that sun had been, with the heavy snow cover the reflective glare being thrown back at us through our scopes was blinding, that’s for sure. But, you know what? We all had a good time and are now anxiously awaiting next Saturday's match when we can turn right around and do it all again.

The results for the day were:

As a side note, Dan informed us, with pictures, of how this morning during a practice session he had shot a 250-14X in his back yard. A big HATS OFF to Dan Brown!!!

David,
Thanks for snowblowing so we could use the target stands and also clearing the windows so we could shoot out of the shack on Friday.

I placed my first flag no problem walking on the snow crust. Walked out with my wind probe and was up to my waist in snow. Thanks to Dan Brown for placing my middle flags.

Doug Shea dug fox holes for his wind flags.

Dan Brown made up and down wind flags and with his 248 worked well.

And what you're seeing in all those pictures is exactly why when it all begins to melt the range will probably go underwater by as much as 6 to 8 feet. The year before last the high water mark left at the firing line was at my eye level, and I'm 6' 5+", and the line is elevated ±2 feet above the level of the range!

Congrats Dan .. and Doug you were pulling up behind him. Like the foxholes flags Doug....and that final picture, I don't know if you're putting air into your gun, or setting up some weird fangled ice-fishing rig!!!!

Good going guys,

Michael

What brave souls you are. We were cying the blues and do not even go to the range unlesse it is over 55 degrees. Mostly sunny in the mid 60"s except a couple of weeks ago when we were in around freezing for a coupe of days. Pesistance and determination is everything.
