Man, did we ever luck out! Well, almost? Do you remember that little Tropical Depression Danny that was working its way up the Eastern Seaboard while heading straight for New England as of last Friday afternoon? Funny thing was, and lucky for us, Ol’ Danny Boy seemed to kind of fizzle out before he ever got here. Oh, we ended up with our fair share of rain as we got around 2” throughout the coarse of match, but all that wind that had been predicted turned out to be very manageable with the biggest of the gusts topping out at somewhere in the low to mid 20 MPH range, just enough to keep you honest, and to help keep the mosquitoes away, but not enough to make your life miserable.
Now, don’t get me wrong as everything did get more than just a little wet during the match since all of those breezes were blowing everything straight up our bores as it was coming in from the north. But, that’s something to be dealt with once you get back home. And we did have lots of cold fingers as the temps struggled to even get into the mid-50’s, so combine that with the dampness and there was no escaping being cold – or damp.
There were only seven of us dealing with the challenge of it all. Todd Banks had come in with Pete Roberson from New York as Todd was hoping to achieve his first ever 250 at Pinnacle Mtn., something he’s been able to accomplish at every other range he has ever shot at, but is still waiting upon up here on the mountain. Yet, once again the range would have none of it, and Todd was turned away empty-handed without having achieved his goal one more time. Ah, but there will come another day in the not so distant future when my friend Todd Banks will arrive with only a dream, and yet go home with his heart filled with joy. Maybe next time Todd.
