Pineyhill - Just like fine wine

This past Sat. an IR match was held at Pineyhill. As usual, it was a very competitive and hard fought match. Competition was strong. I counted no less than six former or current national champs on the line. Not to mention some future ones too.

While all the winners deserve recognition, I would like to spotlight one in particular. Woody Atwood, with a score of 750-57x, won the unlimited class. He had a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the 3 card match.

For those of us, that know Woody, this comes as no surprise. For those that do not know him, here is a little background.

Woody is a combat vet of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. In between these tours, he spent 9 years on the Army rifle team. Where he competed in and won matches literally all over the world. After 22 years in the military he took up black powder and archery shooting, adding even more prominent championships to his list of accomplishments. About 4 years ago, he took up 22 benchrest shooting and the rest is history.

Oh, did I mention the fact. Woody is now 84 years old.

On a personal level, you will not meet a nicer, more energetic or funnier man. I personally, feel blessed and honored to be able to call Woody my Friend.

Congratulations Woody, you are just like fine wine. Better with age.

It's really wonderful to read things like this because guys like this have been the life blood of shooting sport.

Great shooting Woody!

Of course this isn't the first time you have cleaned my clock. The bad part is I know it won't be the last.

Great shooting!

Tony

Good news. Woody is still kicking butt. He shot another 750 UL today at Piney Hill. Someone please take that ammo away from Woody or make him shoot right handed. He owns bench 18. And he beat me by I think 3 X's on that 750 to boot. Dam fine work Woody! bob
