After a hiatus of 30 years the Pine Tree Rifle Club in Johnstown, NY is proud to announce that it will host two registered IBS Score matches in 2014. Pine Tree has a long history of hosting registered group matches, including national championships, from 1947 until the early 1980's. Pine Tree is the birthplace of organized benchrest shooting. In 1947 club member, noted gunsmith, and benchrest shooter Harvey Donaldson, (.219 Donaldson Wasp) and a group of benchrest shooters formed the Benchrest Shooters Association (BRSA) and held their first registered matches at Pine Tree. The BRSA later became today's NBRSA and IBS organizations.

About five years ago, John Del Savio (who will be the Match Director) spearheaded an effort to upgrade the rifle range. There are now 39 covered benches. Each bench is constructed of 2x6 lumber mounted on concrete block foundations. The benches are very sturdy and do not move. On the PTRC website www.frontiernet.net /~pinetreerifle/ you will see a table of Activities. If you click on "Centerfire Rifle 2013" and scroll down you will find a photo of the range as it is today and also a photo of the range in 1948.

A 100 yard IBS registered match is scheduled on Saturday, May 31st and the N Y State 100/200 Score Championship is scheduled on Saturday and Sunday August 30th and 31st. The club is located 9 miles north of NY Thruway (I 90) Exit 28. Hotel/motel accommodations are available in Johnstown and nearby Gloversville. Royal Mountain Campsite is located approximately 9 miles west of Johnstown on Rt 29. Other campgrounds are available at further distances.
