I am considering pillar bedding a barrel block. My initial plan was to use two screws at the front and two at the rear. Is there any reason that using a single screw at each end is preferable?
I don't understand why you would use pins. I'm viewing the barrel block as the only connection between the barreled action and the stock. In a typical pillar bedding, the action and recoil lug are the contact points with the use of either two or three in-line and centrally located action screws but no pins. Could you explain why you recommend pins?
1/4-20 on small blocks in laminated stocks. 5/16-18 on the 10"-15" blocks in the McMillan BR50 and aluminum billet stocks. 6 to 8 scews on the big blocks. Socket Head Cap Screws.
I use the dowel pins for alignment and as a recoil lug. If you use properly sized dowels and holes you will have perfect alignment everytime. I use (3) 5/16" flat head bolts and (2) 3/8" dowls. Our blocks are 9" long, glue in style.
