Pierce octagon barrel rifle-photos

This is the photos on my Pierce receivered rifle that is ready to go to James Anderson"Gunmaker" for one of his nice walnut stocks. The rifle has a Shilen trigger, Gentry 3 POS safety, an 1.350 Lilja barrel blank, James Anderson cut the octagon, I had to make the scope bases for the Talley rings, moved the recoil lug under the receiver to get rid of the Remington type recoil lug, manufactured a trigger guard, and made the front and rear Iron sights. Dan Armstrong,Dan's 40X, tigged 2 bolt handles together to get the look that I wanted. Jerome Glimm engraved the bolt knob.

The walnut came from Roger Vardy in Australia. It will have a checkered buttplate with a trap door and a checkered grip cap. I especially want to thank my friends, Jay Lynn Gore and Jim Kobe for their help on this project.

hi butch
i must say i like your tast, it lock really grate what cal is it in ?
hope you post some more pic when its done

Butch, looks as though things came together nicely. You did some fine work with the sights and bases. The bolt handle came out very well, and Jerome's checkering is beautiful. You wouldn't have some pics of the blank that's being used, would you? Is the metal SS or CM..and how do you plan on finishing it?

Hal,
I only have a real poor pic of the wood.

I have not seen it in person as it was shipped direct from Roger to the stock maker. I traded a mini mauser bottom metal for it. I was told that it is going to look better than the piece on my Mexican Mauser. I find that hard to believe.
Hal, it is all CM and will be rust blued.

Butch,

I'm envious. That is really, well, cool.

Has Rad died? He hasn't tried to pi$$ on your parade yet.

It'll be a tall order to top the wood on your Mex Butch, but that blank looks pretty nice:D. It'll be something when this rifle is finished...I don't guess there are too many rust blued Remington clone receivers out there. BTW, I'm hooked on rust bluing. I picked up some Brownells rust blue a while back just to see how bad I could screw up a nice Mauser receiver I had laying around. Anyhow, it turns out that even the inept can achieve good results when following instructions:rolleyes:. I've now decided that no CM in the house is safe;), I've even rusted up a couple Wilson dies!!!

Hey Buddy, I hope you have a wonderful day. I have been asking for pictures of your work for quite some time now, where is it?
Butch

Thanks German, I don't even know what they would run in quantity. They ain't cheap one at a time. If you saw the photos from an earlier post you could see that it was done with EDM and a little mill work and a lot of Jay Lynn Gore's hand work.

Wow!

Didn't think I was, but I must have been absent from this site for awhile..................
Got curious about this guy Rad, so went to his profile, then his posts......................What an abrasive a$$hole!
Many of his posts may or may not contain good information, but the way he presents himself is just shameful. There is no need for someone to attempt to humiliate others as he does in his posts. I think if I met him on the street and he talked to me the same way he talks to folks on this site, there would only be two sounds.....................me hitting him, and him hitting the floor.
Rad, get some class, this is supposed to be a friendly site where information and assistance is given in a gentlemanly way. Otherwise, go away and troll elsewhere.

Dear Butch,

I am officially extremely jealous.

Thanks for making me drool,

Katokoch

P.S. I demand a bib, or at least a hankerchief if you continue this behavior.

An actual question though, would milling out an octagon profile on a barrel blank distort the bore at all?

Katokoch,
Good question. It did get a light lap after the octagon was cut. If it shoots less than 1 MOA consistantly, I'll be happy.
