Pictures from Super Shoot?

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post on this forum as I'm just getting into benchrest shooting. I've also been heavily involved in the koi fish hobby for 15 years and in comparing forums from both interests, I've noticed that there are few if any photos posted from major events, such as the Super Shoot. If this were a koi forum, for example, there'd be numerous photos posted of the venue, the competitors, their fish, the show site, etc. As a benchrest newbie, I'd really appreciate being able to see what's going on in Ohio. If I'm off the mark here in some way, I'd sure appreciate being set straight.

Bob, most of them are busy competing and do not have time to post stuff or have access to computer although a few do. Maybe someone will post something later, There are some members who have photo albums of past shoots and maybe someone will give the address of the website that hosts them.

SS Photos

I was at the SS on Wednesday....had my camera. There was a rain feel and some rain.I took my camera to the car.
But I agree,so may famous shooters, smiths, barrel makers...I was:):) in awe of who I was seeing...and listening to.
It was a great time.

Here is a link to a website that was run by a European Benchrest shooter who passed away a few years ago. He was a really great guy and they keep this site running in his memory.
Most of the pictures are of European BR but there is a section that has some Super Shoot pictures in it.

Turk Takano has a website where he had some photos of several benchrest shoots posted at one time. I believe it was www.wildshot.com but won't swear to it. Turk is here and I'll ask him in a few minutes.

Thanks for your responses. As mentioned in my original post, I'm pretty involved in the koi hobby, both as a hobbyist and as a judge in two programs. One of them is national, the other international, so I get to judge shows not only here in the U.S. but outside the country as well. I've had the good fortune to judge two shows in South Africa and will travel to Holland this August. Needless to say, judges are pretty tied up once we get to the venue where we're working; however, with the advent of pocket sized digital cameras, it's still pretty easy to take a few snaps before, during and after the competition is over. When my wife was alive, I gave the camera to her. If you were to visit the three major koi related forums, you'd find a plethora of pix from every show held here in the U.S. and many of the major shows abroad. I only mention this to hopefully inspire more photo taking at events in an effort to spread the news of benchrest to those of us who can't be present at an event.

I've never judge a koi pond but you can't possibly be as busy doing that as a benchrest shooter is trying to make their relay, keep a gun in tune, load and clean between matches. There just is not enough time to take pictures and get them uploaded during the day. We encourage interested shooters to join us at matches and do all we can to help but your post has the tone that we are remiss in not having pictures posted ASAP to satisfy the curiosities of some. I know this was not your intent.

I've taken a few pictures but don't have the means to transfer them to the laptop. Give it a few days and there may be some pictures but probably not enough to satisfy many people. It will cost me upwards of $2,000 to attend the Super Shoot to make it obvious to the most casual observer that I don't shoot very well. That's not counting the money I've spent on my many lusts (actions and such, not vices ;) )
I'll post a few photos when I have the time but not today.

Hi Mickey,

Any word on Seb, did he make it across the big pond and was he able to meet up with his pre-delivered gun and get it up and shooting in competition?

Hope your travel and shoot are going well.................Don

Seb and his wife are here and doing well. I've seen Paul Schmid shooting one of Seb's stocks but have not seen Seb shooting even though I know that he must be. Conflict of relays, I suppose.

Seb and I have exchanged pleasantries and I was able to find some Remington barrels that he needed so I brought them to him. Seb is a very nice person and it's been a pleasure to visit with him.

Hi Bob,

These large venue BR tournaments are more of a participant sport than a viewers event, which usually start with preparations at 6am in the morning and end with clean up and flag layouts to 7pm in the afternoon, with very little rest and down time in between. The tournaments are held in remote locations with little internet access because this is a large field firearms activity.

Because of this structure, there is seldom, nor is there likely to be in the future, much on-line photographic coverage, unless a non-participating reporter interested and versed in BR were to cover an event. Strangely enough, I thought the owner of the 6br website said that he might attempt to cover this years SS, although it probably will not be daily coverage but a synopsis of the event provided sometime after the finish of the tournament............................Don

Thanks Don,

I appreciate your explanation of the differences between the two types of events. For what it's worth, those of us who post pix at koi shows usually do so from our motels/hotels after late night banquets and award presentations using our laptops and whatever type of connectivity is provided by the owners of the lodging. I still hope to attend a "large" benchrest event some time this summer and will bring along a camera and laptop and attempt to provide some coverage. I live in northern Illinois, so any suggestions as to what event(s) to consider would be greatly appreciated.

Bob
