Picatinny vs. Weaver

Will scope rings using the Weaver style mounting spec work satisfactorily on a Picatinny rail? Specifically, Burris Signature Zee rings (Weaver) on an AR15 Picatinny rail. The rings physically fit, but there is gap between the bottom of the ring and top of the rail. The cross screw is smaller than that on the Picatinny ring (Burris XTR). I don't get the feeling the Weaver fit on the Picatinny rail is as secure as it should be, but I am new at this, and not sure. I liked the Zee rings to avoid lapping and having ring marks on the scope.

Thoughts?

weaver vs Picatinny

Usually they will, but it's not guaranteed that "Weaver" rings will fit Picatinny rails. This discussion on the Brownells website pretty well sums up the situation.

The mating surfaces on both systems are the < > grooves on each side. If the top surface of the rail is pressing on the ring it's not a proper fit. The amount of gap is not specified.

Burris rings Picatinny

I have Burris Zee rings on Picatinny rails on several rifles.

375 H&H down to 22 rimfire.

Work fine.
